Stoneham Chamber members and dental physicians Dr. Diane Bonanni, DMD and Dr. Badrieh Edalatpour, DMD are pleased to announce that they will be taking dental impressions for custom mouth guards for student athletes during the Chamber’s Health & Wellness Expo, Saturday, April 8 from 9:00am – 1:00pm. Custom dental mouth guards can cost up to $200. The first 100 mouth guards will be provided FREE of charge.
The Expo’s mouth guard station will be staffed with five dentists; Dr. Badrieh Edalatpour, Dr. Diane Bonanni, Dr. Nahal Panah, Dr. Roshanna Ghazinouri, and Dr. Joy Kasparian-Federico. Dental impressions will be taken during the Expo and then sent to a lab for fabrication. The first 100 mouth guards are fully funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Dental Society Foundation.
“We are so happy to be able to offer these free mouth guards to student athletes”, says Dr. Badrieh Edalatpour of Chamber member Children’s Dental Care. “Custom mouth guards are the preferred means of protecting the teeth and may help to prevent some concussions during sports activities”.
Dr. Diane Bonanni, of Diane Bonanni DMD further notes that although the American Dental Association states that a properly fitted mouth guard is the best available protective device for reducing the incidence and severity of sports-related dental injuries, two common barriers to widespread use of custom fitted mouth guards are awareness of the increased benefits and the cost. “The Health & Wellness Expo gives us the perfect opportunity to increase the awareness right here in our community. Furthermore, with the assistance of the Massachusetts Dental Society, Dr. Edalatpour and I can provide 100 of these free to our local student athletes.”
