With the new construction at 380 Main Street nearing completion, the project has drawn a number of Boston area technology and other firms to Stoneham Square. Attracted by the convenient location and unique building design elements, these firms are moving from many surrounding towns to join the business community in Stoneham.
London Based Kinetic Software will be moving its greater Boston office from Wakefield to Stoneham. Progressive Communications of Georgia will also be locating its Boston office in the new development. In addition, local tech firms are choosing Stoneham Square to set up shop. Highly regarded web design firm Full Circle Design is moving from Main Street Melrose to Stoneham. Online marketer X Agency, previously located in co-sharing office space, will be growing into new space in Stoneham Square.
Building developer Christian Senna explained, “We wanted to create office space that would appeal to tech firms that might otherwise choose Cambridge or Somerville. With that in mind, we offer tenants the opportunity to customize their space with exposed ceilings and ductwork, polished concrete floors and industrial style light fixtures. This seems to have had a positive effect on our leasing efforts.”
The development also includes first floor retail space, which will be home to the much-anticipated Stones Common House & Kitchen, led by Number 9 Park and Café Art/Science veteran chef and Stoneham native Patrick Campbell.
Senna also hopes that the increased density in the Square will help existing local businesses. “If this project helps Pignone Café or Kushala Sip, that would be awesome.” He also was quick to acknowledge the support received from town hall, especially Erin Wortman, Stoneham’s Director of Planning & Community Development. Wortman commented, “This project follows the guidelines of the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) recommendations to increase density in the square, recruit new businesses, and add to the vitality of the streetscape. We are very pleased with the outcome.”
With eight of eleven suites rented, Senna is hopeful the building to be fully leased by building opening January 1.
