Located just 9 miles north of Boston, Stoneham is a quintessential New England community that boasts an incomparable location at the intersection of Interstates 93 and 95.
Stoneham is a suburban town with just under 25,000 residents. Its thriving business community, classic New England neighborhoods and historic town center make Stoneham a sought-after destination for residents, businesses and visitors alike. Stoneham has a large housing stock that is surprisingly affordable for its north shore suburban location. Its good schools and solid reputation for public safety are a draw for young families.
Nearly a third of Stoneham’s land is held by the Middlesex Fells Reservation – a retreat of over 2,500 protected acres of recreation for hiking, horseback riding, rock climbing, cross country skiing and many other outdoor pursuits. Other cultural gems include the Stone Zoo and Stoneham Theatre.
The Stone Zoo, accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, provides a wealth of opportunities to connect with the animal world through hands-on discovery and inquiry. The Greater Boston Stage Company provides year-round live theatre in a suburban setting.
Numerous town-wide annual and special events mark Stoneham’s calendar. The Stoneham Chamber of Commerce collaborates with the Town of Stoneham each year to hold Stoneham Town Day, the Holiday Tree Lighting on the Stoneham Common, the Summer Concert Series and the Halloween Stroll. Launched in 2015, the Stoneham Farmers Market has enjoyed tremendous success with its Thursday afternoon market on the Town Common June through September.
Stoneham is also home to two municipal golf courses, an ice arena, a municipal swimming pool and the Tri-Community Bikeway/Greenway and water recreation on beautiful Spot Pond.
