StonehamBank Celebrates 135 Years
On January 10, 1887, StonehamBank was established to assist the town and its citizens in the transition from an industrial center to a residential community populated by individuals who work outside of its borders. As relayed by the Stoneham Historical Society & Museum, “As is well documented throughout history, men and women of vision often produce their richest work in the face of poor circumstances. So it was…when a group of Stoneham citizens met at the Town Office for the purpose of considering the feasibility of establishing a co-operative bank in Stoneham; an institution they felt critical to assist the town and its citizens in the transition from a self-contained industrial center to a residential community populated by individuals working outside its borders.”
Congratulations to StonehamBank on this remarkable milestone! 135 years later and they continue to be a local institution that is purpose driven in supporting the economic well-being of the communities they serve, including giving back 10 percent of their profits. .

Calling All Artists! Support the Stoneham Art Group’s Winter Abandoned Art Project
The Stoneham Art Group is combating the winter doldrums by hosting their first ever Winter Abandoned Art Project! Volunteers are needed to donate art and assist with leaving pieces of art around town for others to find. Art Abandonment, the act of abandoning art in public spaces for strangers to discover and keep, is a movement first started by artist Michael deMeng on Facebook in 2012. deMeng characterizes the deed as “good for the soul…A random kind act.” This project is offered with connecting to the greater Stoneham public in mind and to spread good cheer through adventure and discovery.
If you would like to participate in the Winter Abandoned Art Project, please contact Claudia Prodero Arnoff at claudia@ceramicapaintstudio.com.
